a blank canvass

When we moved in to our house (almost 2 years ago!), it was all painted one colour -- beige! We were going to be charged $100 for each additional colour, so we decided we'd just go with one color and do it ourselves for less money. Well, there were a few problems with that thought process. First of all, the plan was to get possession of this house a few weeks before we had to move out of our old one so we'd do the painting before we moved in. That didn't happen, since the house took longer than anticipated and we were actually homeless for 2 days. And it's always harder to get around to painting once you're already living there. Secondly -- it turns out we didn't really save ourselves that much money PLUS we had to do the work ourselves! Oh well -- hindsight is always 20/20 right?

So we've s-l-o-w-l-y been adding color over the past few months. We started with accent walls in the living room and dining room back in July. And yesterday we finally added a bright splash to Joelle's room (and this time I wasn't out of commission, so I could actually help!). She has been waiting for this for months already! Check out her Before pictures. Boring, hey?

And now for the grand unveiling of her new, beautiful, bright PURPLE room (with her bed and new bedding to boot!)

I am so excited about the huge improvements that a simple coat of paint made. Now we're hoping to get Les' talented artistic sister to add some detail to the walls...like butterflies, ladybugs, flowers, etc. Then of course there's the curtains...if you scroll back up to the first picture, you'll notice there's a lion blanket acting as a curtain for one half of the window (an a fleece blanket covering the second half). We need to change that! I also evetually want all of her furniture to be white, instead of some white and some brown. The desk (shown below) also needs to be painted to match its dresser counter-part. All in good time though. At least the painting is complete! Next up...Malia's room! We already have the paint at home, but I'll leave you in suspense as to what it looks like! Stay tuned...
